PORT

VINHO DO PORTO

DOURO VALLEY-NORTHERN PORTUGAL

Port is a fortified wine, arguably the greatest of all fortified wines, one of the truly iconic wines of the world alongside the likes of Bordeaux, Burgundy and Champagne, to name a few. Fortified wines are made by adding a proportion of grape spirit or, brandy, to interrupt the fermentation process, hence keeping the residual sugar of the grape. Port is produced exclusively in the mountainous vineyards of the Douro Valley in the northern Portugal, the first vineyard area in the world to be legally demarcated in 1756. Ín a class of its own, Port owes its distinctive character to a unique association of climate, soil, grape varieties and winemaking expertise that cannot be replicated elsewhere. Port has a variety of different styles, each with its own characteristics' flavors.

IWC 95 Points. Blend of 40% Tinta Roriz, 30% Touriga Franca, 20% Tinta Barroca & 10% Other. This is fragrant, fresh and full of the original fruitiness of the wine. The wood aging, mainly in small barrels, has smoothed the wine out while leaving a hint of toastiness. At the end, the acidity is both delicious and refreshing.

Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, Tinta Roriz, Tinta Barroca & Tinto Cão. This 30-year-old Port Wine is produced by traditional methods. After manual grape harvesting, the grapes are partially destemmed and crushed in a lagar, where a slight maceration takes place before alcoholic fermentation (AF). Fermentation is stopped with the addition of brandy at the ideal moment defined by the winemaker. This results in a fortified wine that ages in oak casks for between 25 and 40 years in the Douro region. Bright and golden-colored wine with greenish-brown rim. It has aromas of dried figs, nuts, and honey. The wine has notes of dried fruits and caramel.
